Projected vs Actual Release Date
A projected release date is an estimate or scheduled custody date. An actual release date is the date a jail, prison, or supervision system records the release event. In Shelby County, the difference matters because the local jail's public monthly reports prove actual intake and release timestamps, while ADOC and Alabama VNS use state-prison release-date vocabulary for people sentenced to Alabama prison custody.
The Shelby County Jail's live listing has a "Release in the Last Thirty Days" view, and the sheriff's monthly Intake & Release Reports preserve older actual release events. Those are release-record sources, not projected-date calculators. If a person has not yet been released from the county jail, use the court file and jail records staff to understand the legal path.
How to Find a Shelby County Inmate's Projected Release Date
Use the source that matches the custody type. A person in the Shelby County Jail is not looked up the same way as a person sentenced to ADOC or released to ABPP supervision. - For a recent Shelby County Jail release, open the official inmate listing and select "Release in the Last Thirty Days." That view shows inmate number, name, booking date, release date, and charge or bond information.

Why a Projected Release Date Changes
A projected date can move because the calculation is tied to sentence credits, custody path, later court action, and supervision decisions. Shelby County also has a local complication: the county jail can hold municipal, county, state, and federal inmates. A person can leave Shelby custody because of a transfer without being released from every correctional system.

Shelby's VINE page says Ala VINE is for inmates released from ADOC, while notification for a defendant housed in the Shelby County Jail should be requested by contacting the jail at 205-670-6000. State Prison Releases in Columbiana
The Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility is an ADOC-listed private facility at 102 Industrial Parkway in Columbiana. A person released from that facility is a state-custody release, not a Shelby County Jail release. Current custody should be checked through ADOC while the person remains incarcerated; release notifications and release-date fields should be checked through Alabama VNS; supervision should be checked through ABPP.
This distinction prevents a common Shelby County error. A Columbiana facility address does not automatically mean the Shelby County Jail roster is the right source.
